Salsalito

The Bar

Your own pour, and no hurry at all.

The honesty bar came first: a full shelf, your own free pour, and a little book for every room to write it down. It taught the casa its manners.

The new bar keeps that lineage: low light and lacquer, drinks made slowly, the garden just beyond the door. It opens with the new wing.

Hours

The Blue Hour: dusk, every evening.
The honesty bar keeps the evening until the new bar opens.

Bars are in the blood here

Ralph and Sally made bars before this one. The Beach Bar on the sand below, made with Keith Shepherd. Smugglers in the village, designed by Sally herself.

Guests still meet at the honesty bar before and after dinner, friends drop by for a sundowner, and Sally's Labrador Bruno is usually first to the terrace.

The house ritual

The Blue Hour

Dusk at the honesty bar. Every evening, as the light turns, the ledger comes out and the village lights come on below.

Letters from the coast

A few notes a year from the casa: the season, the table, a room come free. Nothing more.
